Top Places To Visit in Thailand

Visiting Thailand this year or just want some travel inspo? Check out Riri’s guide to Thailand here!

1. Khao San Road

If you go to Bangkok, it would be hard to not visit this world-renowned street. While deserted in the day time, this road is the most lively place in the city by night. Filled with nightclubs, bars, spas and plenty of street food to choose from, it is so easy to have good night out. This is probably the most touristic place in Bangkok, but you have to visit it just to say you’ve been!

2. Wat Pho / The Reclining Buddha

My friend and I visited Wat Pho after seeing The Grand Palace, and we ended up much preferring it. We figured out that if you go in the morning it was relatively quiet for Bangkok and way less crowded than The Grand Palace. Due to this quietness, we could enjoy its beautiful buildings and the peacefulness much more. Wat Pho and the neighbouring Reclining Buddha is only 100 TBH, which also includes a free bottle of water!

3. The Phi Phi Islands

The Phi Phi Islands – a group of islands located in the Andaman Sea in Southern Thailand. They are famous for their dreamy beaches and picture perfect views. The most popular beach, made famous by Leo DiCaprio in The Beach, is Maya Bay, a 20 minute boat ride from Koh Phi Phi. Above is a picture of Long Beach, Koh Phi Phi. The sunsets here are wonderful as you can see, but be sure to bring a torch for the trek back through the jungle if you are walking!

4. Lumphini Park

hhhhhIMG_1609.pngBangkok’s version of Central Park. This is a beautiful and lively park to take a stroll in and people watch. You will find many partaking in activities such as Tai Chi, running and cheerleading in the park each day. It is just as great at night-time, and I preferred it later on in the day as it was a peaceful place to reflect on life without the crowds or tourists rushing by.

5. Wat Tham Sua (Tiger Cave Temple)

zzimg_2051-copyThe Tiger Cave Temple in Krabi, has many beautiful scenes at the bottom complete with a Chinese Goddess Statue, waterfall and little monkeys who reside at the site. The temple takes 1237 steps to the top. It took us about 40 minutes to get to the top including our many breaks to catch our breath again in the heat. Once you get to the top, the actual temple isn’t out of this world, but if you go on a clear day the views are spectacular. Also, you will feel a great amount of happiness and pride in yourself for completing the climb.

6. Floating Market

zzz8895bd3434d514c9d87871eb962e5234We didn’t get round to visiting a floating market on our two-day trip in Bangkok, but my friend did it and said it was really enjoyable. There are many floating markets in Bangkok, some more touristy than others. To get a true feel of Thailand without selfie sticks, I’d recommend Talin Chan Floating Market or visit Amphawa’s Floating Market early in the morning. This is definitely on my to-do list for my next trip back to Thailand!

7. The Grand Palace

111IMG_2071.jpgThe Grand Palace is basically Thailand’s Buckingham Palace. The area includes many magnificent buildings with the most beautiful colours and patterns. The palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam (and then later Thailand) since 1782. Crowds appear quickly as it’s one of Bangkok’s main sites, so make sure you come early or later on. Make sure you cover up fully, women to hide their shoulders and knees, and men to wear long sleeve and full trousers.

8. Chang Mai

1111wallhaven-410370.jpgWe were unable to visit Chang Mai thanks to a lack of time, but I have seen so many beautiful photos on Instagram, and of course, all the elephants. Nature reserves and animals are a big part of Thailand, especially Chang Mai, but be sure to research about which animal places are healthy and not cruel! It’s awful seeing animals chained up, so do not go near or support them!

9. Phuket

111IMG_1658.jpgPhuket is known for its beautiful coasts and also Patong Beach – Phuket’s main nightclub area. Even if you don’t drink like me, or you don’t enjoy going out so much, you need to experience Thailand’s nightlife at least once when you’re visiting! I’m happy I’ve been there, but I wouldn’t return, I prefer quieter and less touristy places, but I’m still happy I visited.

10. Emerald Pools

aaaIMG_2063.jpgOne of the most relaxing and fun places I visited was this natural hot spring. The Emerald Pool is situated in Krabi, Southern Thailand and is about 300 THB (£6 / $9). I’d recommend to go early as possible to beat the crowds, but it wasn’t too busy when we visited in the day time. It is pretty slippy, so be sure you take sturdy shoes with you.
